Building a Sukhoi Superjet 100: Who Does What?

Published on 07/02/2017 01:00 - By

Like Boeing for its 787 Dreamliner, the aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi calls on many partners to manufacture its Superjet 100 (SSJ100). As shown in the illustration, subcontractors obviously come from Russia, but also from France, the United States and Germany.

If the SSJ100's structure (fuselage sections, wings, empennage) is made by Sukhoi itself, the engines are supplied by PowerJet, a joint venture combining French and Russian engine manufacturers - Safran Aircraft Engines and NPO Saturn.

Safran Landing Systems supplies the landing gear and the American Goodrich takes care of the tyres. As for the twin-jet 's avionics, these are manufactured by French group Thales. Its air conditioning systems come from German equipment manufacturer Liebherr-Aerospace. Electrical systems and Auxiliary Power Units are produced by Americans - Hamilton Sundstrand and Honeywell, respectively.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft does not offer in-flight entertainment systems to its customers, as the Superjet 100 is a medium-haul jet. Assembly takes place at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur chain in Russia, some 4,350 miles (7,000 km) east of Moscow.
