In three days time the biggest airshow of the year will open its doors in Farnborough, UK. Some 200 aircraft will be on display on the ground and in the air.

Launched twenty years ago at a cost of 400 billion dollars, the long awaited Lockheed Martin F-35 will carry out demonstration flights. Two years ago, the fighter jet had been grounded due to engine fire. The F-35 can fly up to 1,180 mph and will, at last, be able to display its full potential.

The American helicopter manufacturer, Bell, will also be presenting their latest, the V-280 Valor. The prototype has got directional propellers that Bell would like to sell to the US Army. It will be displayed on the ground as its first flight is scheduled for next year.

Airbus is also in the spotlight. The European OEM could possibly announce the launch of its A350 stretch version. The 400+ pax aircraft is intended to be a competitor to the Boeing 777X.

Boeing will be celebrating its 100th birthday during the show. The American OEM has dedicated a special pavilion that will exhibit past, present and future projects. Other classic aircraft will also be on display such as the B-17, the DC-3 Dakota or the B-25 Mitchell.

The first five days of the show are professional but the doors will be opened to the public on the 16th and 17th of July. 100 000 people are expected.
