On 29 October, at 12:30pm local time, a Dynamic Airways Boeing 767 engine caught fire shortly before taking off from Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport.

Whilst the aircraft was taxiing, the pilot reported a fuel leak to the left engine, following which, it burst into flames. The American company states that "the crew followed emergency procedures, turned off the engine and evacuated the aircraft to ensure the safety of everyone on board."

The 101 passengers and crew members, who were to fly to Caracas in Venezuela, were able to evacuate the aircraft via an evacuation slide. Latest reports indicate around fifteen people injured, including one who sustained serious burns.

Air traffic was suspended for more than six hours at the airport, which receives 26 million passengers a year.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has sent four investigators to shed light on the incident, reminiscent of that at Las Vegas airport on 8 September, when the left engine of a British Airways Boeing 777 also caught fire as it was about to take off for London.
