As we mentioned on 9th February, Egypt will take possession of 24 Rafale’s for its air force.

With the agreement having been signed by the various parties, all that now remains to be done is for for the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the French Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian and the CEO of Dassault Eric Trappier to sign the last page of the contract which details the terms of the agreement. This will be done on 16th February in Cairo. The value of this contract to Dassault Aviation is estimated at 3.5 billion euros.

The Rafale therefore scores its first export success since its commissioning with the French army in 2004. The surprising speed of less than three months with which this order was concluded, could lead to others. It is also very good news for the French aircraft manufacturer together with their subcontractors, and the Egyptian contract will certainly help sustain the production of this combat aircraft.
