Transition flying car now on sale

When we first talked about it in 2012, it was still a prototype. Today, the Transition, is on the market. To acquire this flying car, developed by the American company Terrafugia, it will cost you $280,000, after paying a 0,000 refundable deposit, for the pleasure of adding your name to the waiting list. It was certified by the American Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) in July 2012. Today, there are a hundred firm orders, with the first deliveries expected in 2016.

In the air this two-seater flying car has a range of 660km (410 miles) at a cruising speed  of 160 km/h (100 mph). It’s the same engine that turns the propeller in flight, and the rear wheels on the asphalt ; and all with Super unleaded fuel.

The Transition has a wingspan of eight metres (261/2 ft.) in flight against a little over two metres (71/2 ft.) road width, with wings retracted. On board, everything is done for the comfort and safety of passengers: there are even airbags, which have never been better named!

But Terrafugia has no intention of stopping there; the company is working on a new prototype worthy of a good science fiction film title : the TF-X. Being a four-seater, it will be a vertical take-off family flying car, and in flight, will have a range of over 800 km (500 miles) at a speed in excess of 300 km/h (180 mph).

But you will have to be patient since its marketing is not expected within the next decade. However, first come, first served ; the initial Terrafugia Transition owners will have purchase priority for the TF-X. Its selling price for the time being has not yet been disclosed.
