"White Tail" is a phrase used by aircraft manufacturers. The less they have, the happier they are, because having a white tail indicates a loss of income. The term makes sense when you know the answer. The term "tail", includes the vertical stabilising surface and rudder at the back of aircraft. This is also the place where the airlines display their logo.
