To cope with a decline in orders of their 8 to 10-seater Global 5000 and Global 6000 business jets, Bombardier will lay off 1,750 employees, mainly in Montreal and Toronto.

In a statement, the Canadian manufacturer announced that they are forced to reduce the production rate of the aircraft due to "an industry-wide softness in demand recently in certain international markets", such as Latin America, China and Russia.

An adjustment that will affect nearly 40% of the people working on the Global 5000 and Global 6000 programmes. The layoffs will take place from next month and will continue into the first quarter of 2016.

In the first three months of this year, Bombardier’s business aircraft branch recorded only 19 orders in total ; a figure down 30% compared to the same period last year.

Over the past 18 months, Bombardier has been in a turbulent zone, causing them to reduce their workforce by 16%, some 6,250 employees in total.

Bombardier now expects much of its CSeries, and their CS100 and CS300 aircraft will be present at the Paris Air Show. Swiss International Air Lines is to receive the first production CS100 in the first half of 2016.
