On January 15th Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier announced the suspension of its Learjet 85 programme. A ‘‘break’’ motivated by current insufficient opportunities for this type of twin-engined business jet, and also a blow to employees working on the programme.
A total of 1,000 people in the aviation industry will be layed-off (600 positions at the Wichita plant in Kansas and 400 in Querétaro in Mexico). 600 other people related to the programme will be re-allocated to other programmes under development (CSeries & Global 7000-8000).
This is the third wave of layoffs since January 2014.
