When an aircraft production hangar is transformed into a giant reception room, it is obviously for an exceptional event. On 17th December, at their Bordeaux-Merignac site (south western France), Dassault Aviation welcomed 200 carefully selected guests.

Being an important moment for the group, a superb presentation, a dinner by chef Thierry Marx, and the presence of the Dassault family was called for at the official presentation of the Falcon 8X, the new flagship of the aircraft manufacturer.

Assembled at Merignac, the 8X is currently undergoing ground tests. Its first engine test took place, as programmed a few days ago ; the maiden flight is expected in the first quarter of 2015. Two units will take part in the flight test programme.

With its thirteen metre (42ft. 8in.) long, up to 19-seater cabin, its ultra-long-range of nearly 12,000 km (over 7,400 miles), capability of connecting Beijing direct with Los Angeles, for example, its ability to perform steep approaches to serve difficult access airports, and equipped with triple Pratt & Whitney engines, this tri-jet would seem to meet the needs of business customers well.

No communication, as yet, regarding the number of orders, which for now, remains confidential ; however, the Falcon 8X, is positioned at the top of the French aircraft manufacturer’s six-strong, high-end Falcon business jet family, and comes with an almost $ 55 million price tag attached.
