Qatar Airways was to receive its first A350 in Toulouse (south western France) in the afternoon of Friday, 12th December, followed by a ceremony organised in Doha the next day in the presence of the company CEO, Akbar Al Baker, but this will not be the case. Delivery of the first unit has been "suspended until further notice", without further explanation given for the reasons.
This decision is not unlike that taken by Qatar Airways last June concerning its first A380. Due to defects in the cabin finishes of their super jumbo, Qatar Airways refused to take delivery of the A380, leaving Airbus to rectify the situation, which resulted in a three-month delay.
Tom Enders, executive chairman of the parent company, Airbus Group is, nevertheless, confident of delivering the first A350 to Qatar Airways before the end of the year.
