• Farnborough 2014 : taking stock

    On the last day reserved for the sector's professionals, it's time to take stock, get their calculators out and do their sums. Firstly, for the two major aircraft manufacturers, this edition has been exceptional for Airbus, but not too bad for Boeing either.

  • Collision averted at Barcelona airport

    On 5th., July, an air collision was averted at Spain's Barcelona airport. A Russian UTair Boeing 767, arriving from Moscow, was making its final approach, however, at the same moment, an Argentine Airlines' Airbus A340 crossed the runway, forcing the Russian pilots to apply full power and go around to finally land their 'plane, without a hitch, a few minutes later. Launched in 2010 by the Women in Aviation Association, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, this event aims to promote the female contingent of this normally, very masculine, activity. The organization today comprises some 2,000 women worldwide...

    Despite appearances, the Singapore Airshow lacked a little sparkle. The result being that, at the end of this 4th edition, professionals of the sector are leaving, on balance, with mixed impressions. The "shower of orders" predicted by some simply did not take place - apart from a few confirmed orders...

Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore's Minister of Transport, boarded an MV-22 Osprey helicopter, the Sukhoi SSJ-100 and the A350, followed by Qatar's Dreamliner, whilst the Minister of Defence, Ng Eng Hen, went to meet manufacturers on the exhibition stands...
