Qantas has a new look! Qantas recently unveiled the new uniform to be worn by its some 12,600 employees in 2014. The Australian company called in the designer Martin Grant to design 35 pieces of clothing. The result?... For the last decade Qantas pilots and flight attendants have worn the same uniform. A rather staid classic outfit that Australian designer Martin Grant has updated to something unique, functional and durable. A total of 35 pieces were created using 15 different materials, such as wool, Australian of course, for suits, cotton for shirts and, for the ladies, trilby hats in a knitted fabric made from recycled bottle tops. The ladies wardrobe includes: a dress, an outfit, a skirt and a scarf, etc.; for the gentlemen: a polo shirt, a suit, a raincoat and a tie. Regarding colours : the designer has opted for French navy blue suiting, with white shirting and variations of the Qantas red, from ruby red to fuchsia pink, are featured in diagonal stripes ( a reference to the Qantas triangle ) for the men’s’ ties and ladies tops and dresses, which will vary according to grade in the company. And to dress the uniformed 12,600 employees, Qantas will have to order some 400,000 pieces of clothing, requiring 350,000 m2 ( 3,760,000 ft2 ) of fabrics. And after their delivery to 21 countries, this new uniform will be worn for the first time in early 2014.
