Air France has redesigned its economy class. At a time when Air France is planning to reduce its workforce by 2,800 jobs next year, the company has unveiled a new offer for its economy class. Meals, audiovisual content, seats, everything has been redesigned. Since Tuesday morning, the Top Resa show has been open in Paris. The opportunity for tourism professionals to find out about their destinations, their products and create new business relationships. For Air France, the 2013 edition of this show is the opportunity to unveil its latest offer. The objective is really an upgrade in the overall range of the company and often we think of the forward cabins, business and first class seating. And what we are saying is, today, Air France is investing 500 million euros, not just for those classes but for all its passengers. Folding trays redesigned, new offers for audiovisual content, with this 500 million euros, Air France has decided to review the economy class from top to bottom - including new seats. The first thing was the level of comfort. So what we did was to refine the seat backs to the maximum with new materials, new foams with combinations of density which give us increased comfort, whilst at the same time refining and giving a more modern look to the seat. We raised the folding tray to the maximum, with the aim of creating more leg space. We have also worked on the headrest, with vertically and side adjustments to produce a pillow effect. When we listened to our customers they said, “I pack the cushion behind my back, but I definitely want a soft headrest.” Innovations to which more than 2.5cm. additional space has been added between the seats, a 2 cm longer folding tray, 9-inch touchscreens, and increased attention to the passengers by the cabin crews. The purpose of these changes is clearly displayed. The product is important, the service is very important, and a major aim is to make a difference with the improved seat, including the use of combined foam density. And we know that it will work. Faced with companies such as Emirates and Singapore, because this new experience concerns the long hauls, it really indicates that we are investing in both the product and our wish to make a difference regarding the human factor. And to compete with the best companies in the world , Air France plans to equip 44 Boeing 777’s with the new seats from next summer, while promising not to raise its tariffs.
