Air Tattoo: Let’s take a peek at the programme! Since its inception in 1971, the Air Tattoo in the UK has become the most important event dedicated to military aviation in the world! There are just a few days before the 2013 edition, and this is what awaits you!... During the coming 20th., and 21st., July, the U.K. Air Tattoo will be putting on its show once again. This event, which gives pride of place every year to military aviation, is the largest in the world with more than 250 aircraft presented at the Royal Air Force base at Fairford, 150 kms. ( 95 miles ) west of London. Last year, the 130,000 skywards-gazing-visitors were able to admire, amongst others, the imposing 1000 km ( 620 miles / h ) U.S. Air Force B-2 bomber that Northrop developed during the cold war, the Bell-Boeing MV-22 Osprey hybrid transportation aircraft: half ‘plane, half helicopter with its twin tilt-rotors, and finally the Polish Air Force Mig-29, developed by Russia in the 70’s... This year’s edition should not be at all disappointing either! On the programme of flying displays; not only the A-400-M military transport aircraft from Airbus Military, the Patrouille de France with its 8 alpha-jets, and the Italian team with their Aermacchi MB-339 fighter aircraft in service since 1980. but also Dassault Aviation's Rafale, this 4th., generation Swedish developed Saab Gripen multi-role aircraft, the Lockheed Martin F16, of which more than 2,300 examples are still in service around the world, the Boeing KC-767 tanker, and of course the inevitable Royal Air Force Red Arrows aerobatic team, that, since their début in 1965, have given more than 4,300 demonstrations around the world. So, a great show in perspective - in the air and on the tarmac! Chocks away this weekend from 07:30 in the morning!
