Low prices: bluff or reality? Companies no longer hesitate to promote their attractive low prices. At the launch of the regional subsidiary of Air France offering one-way tickets at 55 euros, we wanted to know what the facts really are... The new regional subsidiary of Air France offers 530 flights a day to 136 destination cities from 55 euros, V.A.T. inclusive. We carried out a little test on the company website, to verify whether the low price was indeed easily obtainable. So, let’s go to the Hop!... “O.K., we’ll look for a flight from Toulouse. On the map, we click on Toulouse, where we see that there’re 10 destinations offered. Let’s take Lille for example. I click on Lille, and apparently, I can immediately book a ticket. Really quite simple.” On the homepage of the site, many one-way tickets are indicated at 55 euros but, after a few clicks you quickly realize that this rate is NOT available for several weeks. For our flight on April 5, count on 277 euros! A month later 85 euros! Finally, it’s only on June 5 that we can benefit from the offer. The number of seats available at this low price is limited, but this is NOT unique to HOP! No Sir! For example EasyJet offers 8 million seats per year at less than 100 euros! Let’s compare... "Now we’ll take a look at the same itinerary on EasyJet Toulouse-Lille, using the same dates, to compare with the new Air France subsidiary." On April 5, the British company offers a low-cost one-way ticket at 71 euros, which is four times cheaper than HOP! A month later the gap narrows, the ticket costs 70 euros, that’s 15 euros less than the Air France subsidiary. Finally, on June 5, the ticket prices are almost identical! In short, low prices DO exist, although it would be better to book well in advance, and above all compare prices and conditions... especially because some payable options could make a difference.
