The Bombardier 'C Series' flight test on the horizon! The first flight of the Bombardier CS100 is in view ... The main systems of the test aircraft (FTV1) have just been tested for the first time. As for its big brother, the CS300, it will be able to accommodate more passengers than expected. More detailed explanations follow… Unveiled to the press at the beginning of the month, the first CS100 is now ready to take to the air - almost! The main electrical systems of the Bombardier test aircraft have, in fact, just been tested for the first time; the maiden flight, scheduled for next June, is well in sight. "There's still a little work to do on it – in particular, we have to carry out the functional tests that consist in operating each of the aircraft’s on-board systems to ensure they work well." In effect, all that now remains to be done is to confirm the tests carried out on the “Iron Bird” ( Functional Integration Bench ). As for this first plane, destined to test the structural integrity of the aircraft, it has just successfully carried out the two most important static wing flexing tests necessary for the inaugural flight. A total of seven test aircraft will be constructed: five CS100’s and two CS300’s... This latest version has also been slightly modified to accommodate up to 160 passengers. "Originally we were limited technically to 145 passengers. Simply because any more would have required an additional emergency exit, which we have now provided, effectively allowing us to go up to at least 149, or even a few more." A modification that would interest the low cost companies! Is the CS 300 seen as competition for the Airbus A319 or Boeing 737-800? The Canadian manufacturer denies this; their product is optimized for 150 seats, and is rather, therefore, complementary. So far, the Bombardier C series totals 382 firm orders from 14 customers, and its entry into service is planned for mid-2014.
