The big day is finally here for Dassault Aviation. Today, 23rd September, India has officially signed the contract for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets. They will all be manufactured in France. First deliveries are expected in 2019. After Egypt and Qatar, this is the third successful export order and is also the largest. The value of the contract has not officially been released but should be in the order of eight billion Euros.
The signing ceremony took place in New Delhi and was carried out by the French Defence Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian who was accompanied by Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier. This is a truly successful outcome for the French aircraft manufacturer as negotiations have been going on for no less than nine years. They could even continue in the years to come as India will still require another hundred or so fighter jets.
