PlayThe Falcon is 50 years old! The first private jet from Dassault Aviation celebrates its 50th birthday. Thanks to the "Mystère 20" the French manufacturer was able make its mark in business aviation which they maintain even today with their latest versions. Since 1963, 2,250 Falcon jets have been sold worldwide. A well-deserved champagne toast for the 50 year old Mystère 20 from Dassault. Called Fan Jet Falcon in the United States, it was the manufacturer’s first private jet. It enabled the French firm to assert itself on the world map right from outset of business aviation. In particular because it attracted the company Pan Américan during its presentation on May 4, 1963. "In the afternoon before the first flight, since the plane was due to fly that evening, there was a delegation from an American company called Pan-American World Airways, a large airline at the time, who came to visit the plane because at the time the company wanted to set up a business aircraft company. In the delegation there was a very well-known person called Charles Lindberg, of trans-Atlantic fame. And when he saw this plane we could say that he literally fell in love with it. And so it was chosen. 40 planes with one hundred and twenty highly praised options were bought. The prototype of the Mystère 20 was recovered by the Museum of Air and Space at Le Bourget and renovated by the IT MERCURE association. The two original Pratt & Whitney engines have not been replaced and are still operational. "In fact they are engines that were changed at the request of PanAmerican, because they demanded turbo-fan engines. And at that time the best suitable jet was the General Electric CF 700 which equipped the prototype and the following production planes." The Mystère 20 generated a whole line of Jets, from the Falcon 50 in the 70’s to the 7X in the mid-2000’s. And the series continues. "For fifty years we have made Falcon’s, we have always seized the opportunity to make new aircraft and amaze people. There are now a lot of technologies that give us confidence in the improvement of these aircraft. We work a lot on the noise in the cabin, just like the exterior, including the consumption which remains an important objective." The latest Dassault should be unveiled in October at the business aviation air-show in Las Vegas. The SMS, which is the likely name, will then complete the Falcon family, 50 years after its creation.
